This native found in the coastal lowlands of Oregon and California and is well used in the garden or as an informal hedge. An unassuming evergreen that will add late winter interest with the cascading silvery tassels that adorn it. Its glossy undulating leaves are not half bad either. It can be a rounded shrub or a tree that can reach 20 ft depending on pruning. Male and female plants can occur with longer silk tassels on the male plants, and fruiting on female plants if pollinated.
Prune immediately after tassels if shaping or size control is preferred. Prefers good drainage, and can be drought-tolerant once established, but will be happily greener with some regular water (at least in our area). Protect from wind and give it afternoon shade in extremely hot or dry conditions (farther inland) as leaf damage can occur if not protected.
Note: 2026 plants are not sexed
