Hibiscus 'Midnight Marvel', Hardy Hibiscus

Carmine-red 6 – 10-inch(!) flowers bloom in mid to late summer on reddish stems with long, violet-purple maple-shaped leaves that turn brilliant orange in fall. Of course, there is the long, protruding staminal structure typical of Hibiscus, that which distinguishes them and makes them look so exotic. Flowers bloom for only a day, but there will be many and all in succession bringing butterflies. Cut back in fall to 3 or 4 inches, and keep in mind that plants are slow to emerge in late spring to early summer so do not despair. This is a well-branched and mounding form. Do not let it dry out.
