A vigorous Coyote Mint with ball-shaped clusters of pinkish-purple blooms above fragrant evergreen leaves. Loved by bees and butterflies. Deer resistant. They perform excellently in full sun to part sun and will tolerate light shade (but mostly as a foliage plant). Drought tolerant once established, but happier with some supplemental summer water during our heat waves.
One of our staff members is particularly offended by plants being labeled "Deer Resistant", as many fall short of the label. Monardella villosa 'Russian River' has received a gold star for resistance to foliage foragers after it was tested in that staff member's garden, which goats, ducks, and deer frequent.
