Arctostaphylos gabilanensis is a rare species of manzanita, endemic to California, where it is known only from two disjunct populations in the Gabilan Range-which forms the northeastern boundary of the Salinas Valley. It was only botanically recognized in 2004 because of its very limited distribution on private land. The upright growth habit of overlapping grey-green leaves gives this species a singular character. Rosy tipped new growth adds to its appeal as a landscape plant. Appreciates no summer water and excellent drainage once established.
