This North American sea holly's native range spans the length of Mexico, and it features long, spiky dark green basal foliage rather than the rounded blue-green leaves of the more commonly seen European species. The flowers are still the fun, slightly creepy thistle-like spikes that won the hearts of all of us Eryngium enthusiasts; the bracts are a true gray rather than blue-silver.
Makes an excellent cut flower, both fresh and dried.
Best grown in full sun in sharply-draining soil. Intermittent water is appreciated.
