Anemone deltoidea, western white anemone or Columbian windflower

Our native anemone that glows on woodland spring floors with delicate white flowers held over its three lightly serrated leaflets. Happy spreader, so it's odd that it can be difficult to track down in the trade. Its native range spans the Northwestern coastal mountains from Northern California up into Washington. Best planted in part shade with occasional summer water.

Minimum temperature: -10° F

NOTE: These are SUMMER DORMANT plants; they dry up and go "to sleep" after they bloom in spring or summer. Do not be alarmed when they disappear with the onset of warm weather days--given proper conditions, they will be back the next spring, bigger and better than before.
