Rare manzanita from the coastal chaparrals of Santa Barbara County, California. The foliage is pointed and clasping, and a charming red-orange blush on the new growth. It blooms in early spring with white bells and has warm-toned bark.
Its native habitat is fast-draining sand and sandstone soils, but it has been happy to grow in our Willamette Valley clay lifted on a berm.
