This striking species was discovered by Kingdon Ward on the Temo La in the Tibetan province of Pome in 1924.  New lustrous mahogany stems with deciduous powdery blue leaves are a harmonious complement to the intermittent soft yellow spring flowers.  Leaves mature to a handsome purple, with some developing spines, on this upright and arching deciduous shrub.  Oblong red fruit, dusted with a white bloom, develops as the season progresses. RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Once your order is ready, we bring the plants from our greenhouses into a holding area. Each plant is wrapped by hand and, when needed, staked to protect tender stems. Because our inventory is so diverse, we adjust the packing method for each plant based on its size, type, and stage of growth.

We reuse clean paper and plastic packing materials whenever practical. It is easier on the planet and helps keep shipping costs down for you, too.
