Deep merlot stems and leaves are such an asset to the garden, and such a conversation piece! It's a fabulous contrast plant and focal point, and its summer-blooming stems make long-lasting cut flowers. It's still exciting when the spikes are covered in marble-like burgundy seed pods. As soon as it pushes up, this is one of the most popular plants in the garden every year. The more sun, the more merlot. Drink up! 

Our best plants grow on the southern side of a building, with well-drained soil (they are practically in gravel), and very little supplemental summer water. Heat and sun bring out the best in them.

Once your order is ready, we bring the plants from our greenhouses into a holding area. Each plant is wrapped by hand and, when needed, staked to protect tender stems. Because our inventory is so diverse, we adjust the packing method for each plant based on its size, type, and stage of growth.

We reuse clean paper and plastic packing materials whenever practical. It is easier on the planet and helps keep shipping costs down for you, too.
