This North American native comes from damp woodlands along stream banks, pond peripheries, and swamps from Massachusetts to Florida to Louisiana. It bears fragrant, pendent, urn-shaped white flowers in horizontal racemes (to 4" long) in late spring-early summer. Deciduous shrub with yellow, orange, and stunning red coloring in fall.
