In late spring, above thick glaucous foliage rises spikes of 2-inch long bright scarlet tubular flowers that are hummingbird magnets. Its a perfect penstemon for low water gardens with lean soils. This plant's native range spans from the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas down to Baja. 

Best grown in full sun in poor, sharply-draining soil. Most commonly killed with overwatering and poor drainage, too rich of soil will lead to weak growth.

Once your order is ready, we bring the plants from our greenhouses into a holding area. Each plant is wrapped by hand and, when needed, staked to protect tender stems. Because our inventory is so diverse, we adjust the packing method for each plant based on its size, type, and stage of growth.

We reuse clean paper and plastic packing materials whenever practical. It is easier on the planet and helps keep shipping costs down for you, too.
