A perennial conversation piece (so to speak) that performs well in cool, moist, shade gardens. Large, chocolate-mottled palmate leaves hide a spectacular flower in April and May - clusters of 5 or more of the deepest red, pendent, "shredded" blooms. It's best elevated in a tall pot, on a pedestal, or on a bank above a walkway so that it's easier to see its sequestered deep red secret of a flower. On the other hand, it is rhizomatous and will need to be in the garden to proliferate, blanketing the bed with its beautiful (if slightly reptilian) pointillism. Lift the leaf and amaze the unsuspecting. 2 – 3 ft tall and wide.

Once your order is ready, we bring the plants from our greenhouses into a holding area. Each plant is wrapped by hand and, when needed, staked to protect tender stems. Because our inventory is so diverse, we adjust the packing method for each plant based on its size, type, and stage of growth.

We reuse clean paper and plastic packing materials whenever practical. It is easier on the planet and helps keep shipping costs down for you, too.
