A graceful, distinctive California native with striking blue-gray foliage and pale, furrowed bark. Prized for its exceptional drought tolerance, it is highly adapted to hot, dry summers and flourishes in well-drained soils with minimal irrigation after establishment. Slow to mature but long-lived, it thrives in lean, well-drained soils with little summer water once established. A valuable wildlife tree, it provides food, shelter, and habitat for countless birds, insects, and other native species.
