Delicate, orchid-like blossoms of deep purple, bloom on stalks with wide, green, lanceolate leaves. This selection is noted for flowers that are larger and bloom earlier than the species. Found in the Eastern region of the Himalayas, this Ginger relative is happiest in a rich, moist, woodland setting or facsimile thereof.  Appreciates protection from direct afternoon sun. Provide a thick application of winter mulch to protect the tuberous roots in winter.
