Groundcover skullcap with small dense foliage for sunny rocky sites. Blooms heavily in early to mid-summer with magenta tubular flowers. Native to NE Turkey into the Caucasus Mountains. 

The specific epithet comes from the historic region, Pontus, on the SE edge of the Black Sea.
