A native to the eastern United States, as the name describes this adaptable perennial has larger flowers than others of this genus, a lovely soft lavender blooming May through July. Enjoys a west-facing slope and can tolerate sun to bright shade, open woodlands to clearings. Broadly elliptic rich-green leaves with a purplish serrate margin will darken and become more purple as summer turns to fall.
