Selected as a chance seedling in 1982, by then curator Peter Del Tredici, of the Arnold Arboretum in Massachusetts. A spontaneous cross between Stewartia pseudocamellia and S. ovata var. grandiflora with a scarlet boss of stamens in pure white summer flowers. Beautiful bark exfoliates in thin strips.
